Location: Sylmar, CA, USA Type: Full-time (Temporary, 3-6 month duration)
Aerospace Systems Engineer with 5 to 10 years of experience that works closely with internal and external customers to design, develop, integrate and test aircraft systems, directly responsible for the system requirements implementation
Responsibilities cover the entire system development lifecycle: requirements development, management, validation, verification, system design, simulation, implementation, test and qualification, including creation and review of technical specifications, participating in technical reviews, and aircraft integration support.
Requiring minimum supervision, candidate applies the pertinent systems, standards, processes and procedures designed to plan, create and/or document the system work product through its lifecycle, also acting as a technical lead for the development team.
Primary Responsibilities * Responsible for the Systems Engineering aspects (architecture and components) from initial product research, architecture definition, proposal, requirements definition, management and flow down to functional engineering groups. * Responsible for System development, validation, verification and compliance according to ARP4754A. * Directly responsible for the design implementation of aircraft systems often serving as project lead. * Contribute and lead the planning, modeling, simulation, specifications and integration of components that reside in a system comprised of mechanisms, electronics, microcontrollers, embedded software and sensors. * Act as a focal point for hardware, software, mechanical, safety and reliability. * Participate in the qualification and certification compliance activities of essential and critical level control systems for aircraft applications. * Execute projects in accordance with schedules and budgets. * Coordinate activities of others within the integrated product team. * Good understanding of aircraft operation principles * Good understanding of general avionics operation principles * Excellent understanding of aircraft systems design. * Understanding of mechanical, electrical and software engineering principles and terminology * Capable of effectively performing project management duties along with systems development duties * Solid knowledge and understanding of ARP-4754A guidelines * Good understanding of software DO-178 and hardware DO-254 requirements. * Good understanding of DO-160 and military product and system qualification * Capable of providing foundation level and derived requirements to any project * Responsible for all aspects of systems development and maintenance during the lifecycle. * Capable of performing and/or leading system validation and verification tasks * Generates detailed reports and summaries which document systems development processes, test results, validation efforts and failure analysis. * Performs other related tasks which may be assigned. * Maintain the highest ethical standards, even when challenged from above * Understand and live by Esterline’s ethics and business conduct policies Qualifications* Require a Bachelor's Degree in Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, Aeronautical or Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Physics or Math. * Aerospace industry development experience is required. * Experience with ARP4754A. * Must demonstrate proficiency with verbal and written English for technical reports, presentations, analyses, or other communications at the appropriate level. * Must demonstrate the ability to work in a team environment displaying teamwork, cooperation, respect and integrity. * Systems engineering expertise with formal background and training in one or more for the following: * Mechanical Engineering * Electrical Engineering * Software Engineering
* Excellent computer skills and proficient with the use of Windows based word processing, spreadsheet and graphics application software. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills. * Experience with requirements management tools (DOORS) Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: * Experience with MATLAB/Simulink * Familiarity with aerospace, military and commercial specifications. Education/Previous Experience Requirements* Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Software or Electrical Engineering or related field; a Master’s degree is highly preferred but not a requirement for this position. * A minimum of 5 years of working experience in the aerospace, medical, nuclear or military software field is necessary * 5 to 10 years applicable experience is desirable. Work Hours M-F 7am-3:30pm (overtime when approved, as needed)
