The Research engineer has a strong optical, electrical, and engineering background to serve on a number of R&D and production projects related to the design, development, production, packaging and characterization of the company fiber-optic devices.
Responsibilities and tasks:
Collaborate in the optical, mechanical, and electrical design, development, production and packaging of the company fiber devices.
Use customized equipment and devices for the test and measurement, fiber cable assembly, splicing equipment.
Implement control systems and data acquisition software.
Follow precisely the standards and procedures for the production and assembly of the company fiber devices.
Improve production processes and optimize the performance of equipment.
Produce and/or collect reports and documents to ensure production control, planning and monitoring.
Define, schedule and establish normal and preventive maintenance and calibration of all equipment and apparatus used for test & measurement and the development and production of fiber devices.
Ensure calibration of equipment and other apparatus used for fiber test and measurement and fiber devices production.

Knowledge, skills and abilities required:
B.S. degree or M.S. in optics, electrical engineering, physics, or equivalent with a focus in fiber optics/photonics.
Minimum of three years of relevant hands-on or laboratory experience in high-tech facility on a variety of optical devices and their design, fabrication, characterization, calibration, testing and data analysis techniques (preferably post-baccalaureate).
Demonstrated experience working with a variety of computer software applications, such as MS Office, NI LabView, 3D CAD, etc.
Desired areas of expertise include: Matlab, fiber and optical design.
Voice opinions in a constructive manner, good verbal and written communication skills.
Enthusiastic with the willingness to learn.
Strong team player but also able to work in a self-directed manner.
Due to the nature of our work in the government contract research area, U.S. Citizenship or permanent resident status is a firm requirement.
