We currently have an opening for a Systems Analyst who will design, implement, maintain, and support our Energy Management System (EMS), advanced Distribution Management System (DMS), data historian, and other computer systems required to monitor and operate the transmission and distribution systems of GRE and the member cooperatives.
Working with System Operations and our member cooperatives to ensure software is developed and maintained to provide required functions and reports.
Develop and administer processes and procedures to ensure EMS availability is maintained at greater than 99.9%.
Design, develop, and maintain interfaces to the vendor provided software including EMS, DMS, data historian, and other related systems.
Provide technical support and assistance to staff and our member cooperatives including participation in a 24/7 on-call rotation.
Assist with analysis of software problems and ensure they are corrected or reported to appropriate people for resolution.
Ensure cyber security and NERC requirements are met and report any suspected non-compliance to these requirements.
Ensure backup control center system availability and disaster recovery requirements are met.
Monitor technology changes for the purpose of ensuring GRE has best available systems to operate the electrical system.
Knowledge typically acquired through:
Bachelor’s degree in a technology related field and 3-7+ years of experience designing, developing and supporting business systems or applications OR 2+ years post high school education in a technology related field and 5-9+ years of experience designing, developing and supporting business systems or applications.
A Bachelor’s of Science degree in electrical engineering or computer science is strongly preferred. A minimum of 3-7+ years experience in software design, development and support of transmission system operations in a real-time environment strongly preferred.
Knowledge of computer system hardware and software including, operating systems, virtualization, databases, and interfaces.
Knowledge and understanding of real-time data acquisition and control systems and their applications to electrical power systems is required.
Knowledge and experience in Linux and Windows operating systems administration, shell scripting, and relational databases are also desirable.
Knowledge of cybersecurity concepts and best practices.
Knowledge of NERC CIP requirements is preferred.
Skills in communication, both written and verbal, along with the ability to present a professional image, establish credibility, build relationships and partner with all levels of the organization.
Skill in conflict resolution including the ability to address difference of opinions or facts and use the most appropriate method to reach an effective solution.
Ability to manage small and medium projects.
Ability to develop and define technical processes, multi task and coordinate projects simultaneously while applying good time management and prioritization.
Ability to understand systems, design reports, and improve information technology processes.
Ability to make timely and informed decisions after processing all available information.
Ability to work as a part of a cross-function team to achieve project goals.
Ability to adapt to rapidly changing business circumstances; must be able to thrive in a constantly changing business environment.

Great River Energy is a not-for-profit electricity provider owned by our 28 distribution cooperatives in Minnesota and Wisconsin for which we generate and transmit electricity.
