This position assists with planning, designing, and monitoring alterations and improvements to facilities, works with contractors, and manages the maintenance, repair, and installation of campus utility meters, commissioning of utility meters, and connecting to data historian system. This position also assists the senior plant electrical engineer with power plant electrical and control system analysis, diagnosis, maintenance, commissioning, engineering, and management.
The power plant is undergoing modernization with new energy technologies, including renewable energy, over several years as part of the MSU Energy Transition Plan to continue to reduce emissions, improve energy efficiency, and be more cost effective. A new water treatment plant and water tower are under construction to improve water quality for campus and power plant use.
This position will engage in high performance, leading edge practices, which are innovative in their approach to increased stewardship and service excellence.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
This position requires knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in electrical engineering or electrical controls engineering; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in electrical engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience including internships; possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license; and must drive a University vehicle to perform the duties of this position.
The successful incumbent is results oriented with strong oral and written communication skills, problem solving skills, good customer relations/service skills, and the ability to work independently and within a team.
