Description: The Department of Computer Systems Technology at North Carolina A&T State University invites applications for a tenure track faculty position starting January 2020. The appointment is expected to be at the Assistant Professor level. An appointment at a higher rank may be considered for exceptionally qualified applicants. In particular the Department is seeking qualified candidates who can develop a collaborative and innovative research program with a strong expertise in research in cybersecurity and/or computer networking related. The successful candidate is expected to involve undergraduate and graduate students in active research and contribute to the growth of the newly established PhD Program in Applied Science Technology. The hired faculty is also expected to show commitment to teaching excellence and service. She/he is expected to teach courses both at the graduate and undergraduate level, develop courses and curricula, direct students in research, and provide service to the University and community. Individuals with experience in inquiry-based teaching, student-centered learning, and/or in engaging students in investigative laboratory exercises are particularly encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate will develop and maintain a vigorous research program in the field cybersecurity and/or computer networking. The selected candidate is expected to secure extramural funding, and direct the research activities of MS students in Information Technology and PhD students in Applied Science and Technology and related areas. A candidate whose teaching and research efforts will promote the mission of the Computer Systems Technology Department and the strategic vision of the College of Science and Technology as well as the University is highly desired. Service to the Department, the College and the University is also a requirement of the position. The selected faculty will have the ability and willingness to work collaboratively with faculties/colleagues in the sciences, math, and technology areas. Primary Function of Organizational Unit: North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University is an 1890 land-grant doctoral research university dedicated to learning, discovery, and community engagement. The College of Science and Technology is research oriented and fosters academic excellence through innovative programs, critical thinking, and intellectual inquiry to prepare students for the 21st century global workforce. The College houses the departments of Applied Engineering Technology, Biology, Built Environment, Chemistry, Computer Systems Technology, Graphic Design Technology, Mathematics, Physics, and the Applied Science Technology PhD Program. The College is experiencing substantial growth in enrollment, faculty size, curricula, and research. The CST Department prepares students to pursue technical, as well as technical management careers in all employment sectors. The program emphasizes acquisition of sound theoretical studies, as well as intensive hands-on experiences in the area of electronics technology. The CST Department emphasizes development of real world competencies demanded by employers. Students receive thorough grounding in electronics; digital and microprocessor systems; computer technologies, including hardware, software and computer networking; communication systems; power distribution; and automation and control systems. Additional emphasis is placed on courses in business management, statistical process control, humanities, computer programming, safety and project management, and manufacturing processes to provide students the background they need in the economic and managerial aspects of the business enterprise. Internal job number: 001577 Requirements: Applicants must have an earned doctorate in electrical engineering, computer engineering, engineering physics, computer science, electronics technology, information technology, computer technology or a closely related field by the anticipated date of appointment. Preferred: Highly preferred candidates will have teaching experience in an ABET accredited programs and a sustained research record in computer networking and/or cyber-security. It is preferred that the applicant also have a minimum of three (3) years relevant industrial experience in computer networking and/or cyber-security, preferably with companies in the United States. Experience as a postdoctoral research fellow is also preferred. Demonstrated record of independent research and publishing.
