The work will encompass an eclectic mix of programming projects, largely with Linux-based systems. Will support and extend existing software, quickly create proof of concept software for "bleeding edge" users, and develop robust software for release to the greater scientific community. Projects may include instrument control systems, signal processing, high-performance parallel/distributed computing, and development and maintenance of high data rate disk-based recording systems (up to 64 Gbps) or high-speed network application programming (to 100 Gbps).
REQUIRED : B.S. degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or related software development-related area; at least three years' experience; experience with scientific applications and ability to work with Python, C, and C++ in a Linux environment; and attention to detail. Working knowledge of embedded processors and parallel processing highly desired. The ideal candidate is familiar with hardware interfaces of various kinds, can design and implement instrumental monitor and control systems, and has a thorough understanding of disk and network I/O. An understanding of signal processing (correlation, Fourier transforms, sampling, filtering) is also desired. A strong scientific background and an interest in the scientific disciplines of Haystack is preferred. Candidates with degrees in astronomy or other Haystack-related scientific fields and the appropriate software expertise are particularly encouraged to apply. Job #18151
