Organizational Overview The Energy & Photon Sciences (EPS) Directorate at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) is working to solve grand challenges in energy that will create solutions and security for the nation's energy system. Advances in basic science are the underpinning of transformational discoveries that rely on Brookhaven's data-driven research, cutting-edge synchrotron science, and leadership in energy science through real-time study of working conditions in applicable energy materials. Leveraging its world-class scientific staff, one-of-a-kind facilities, and key partnerships in New York State and beyond, the EPS Directorate focuses on scientific challenges in the following areas: Chemistry for Sustainable Energy, Advanced Materials, Energy Storage, Energy Delivery and Efficiency, Photon Science and Nanoscience. The EPS Growth Office facilitates the development of new business and the acquisition of sponsorship agreements from diverse sources. We work to build networks and partnerships to make projects in the EPS Directorate the preferred alternative for funding agencies and industrial clients. The BNL Proposal Center supports Principal Investigators to win competitive bids through the application of Proposal Best Practices from opportunity identification through submission and then to award. This is done by providing high quality proposal management and support from win strategy to high quality content development, including compliant and on-time submission. Position Description Candidate will report to the Proposal Center Manager, and work as part of a team to support the activities of the EPS Growth Office and BNL Proposal Center. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: - Provide support to Proposal Center and EPS Growth Office - develop and implement strategic plans, track and monitor strategic initiatives, proposal activity and proposal management support.
- Record Management: maintain and categorize information in the Growth Offices SharePoint site which includes a document repository including Strategic planning documents.
- Develop, maintain and manage the BNL proposal information management system, including problem analysis and resolution.
- Develop and contribute to capture management strategies including identifying and finding solutions to operational challenges.
- Prepare and present recommendations (i.e., go/no-go presentation) to senior management.
Position Requirements Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Bachelor's degree in a related business field or equivalent experience, generally based on 2:1 (experience: college) years, plus at least four years related work experience showing progressively more complex responsibilities.
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple RFP's and details simultaneously.
- Excellent communication skills, including presentation planning, layout, draft proposal content and editing.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills with proven ability to work with a large diverse team.
- Ability to balance, prioritize and effectively manage one's own time to deliver results and meet deadlines.
- Understanding of proposal processes, preferably with federal sponsors.
- Proven ability to take initiative and work independently and under pressure to handle routine and non-routine matters in accordance with established procedures and guidelines.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (one or more of the following): - Advanced degree preferred.
- Demonstrated organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Proposal management experience (e.g. Shipley Associates).
- Business development or industrial marketing experience.
- Experience using databases including creation and development of dashboards; using document control systems in SharePoint or other document management/record keeping systems.
- Technical editing.
Other Information: - May be required to work flexible hours in order to meet deadlines.
