The Impact You'll Make in this Role

Sterilization test vessels are tightly controlled sterilizers intended to test and/or release biological and chemical indicators for our Device Reprocessing business. As a Systems Engineer in the Quality organization, you will have the opportunity to collaborate cross-functionally on a unique and diverse product platform in a dynamic, high growth 3M Medical Device Business. You will bring engineering expertise to lead projects related to assessing and integrating new vessels or technologies, implement process instrumentation and controls solutions, and fully characterize vessel performance. To enable a long-term sustainable vessel platform, this individual will coordinate internal and external resources to improve throughput, reduce risk and cost, and to help provide tools for improved Product Performance Understanding.

Here, you will make an impact by:

• Leading projects to identify, assess, and integrate new vessels and technologies into the St. Paul R&D site and various manufacturing locations. This may include driving custom design improvements to ensure vessel capability and adherence to published standards
• Effectively collaborating cross-functionally and externally to drive projects or process improvements
• Developing and writing system requirements or user specifications to enable robust test vessel design and build or hardware monitoring solutions. Collaborate with product experts to ensure design meets product needs
• Supporting vessel trouble shooting, investigation, and analysis to address anomalous product performance. Collaborate with maintenance experts to improve current vessel capability and up time
• Updating internal processes, work instructions, and internal systems to align to global operations "best practices" of a medical device manufacturing while meeting business objectives
• Characterizing vessel performance and variability, writing and executing validation protocols, and making recommendations using a risk\benefit approach to a cross-functional audience
• Interacting globally with 3M facilities for quality improvement or localization efforts while collaborating with regulatory, manufacturing, R&D, maintenance, and plant personnel

Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree or higher (completed and verified) from an accredited Institution
• Three (3) years experience with any combination of the following experience in a private, public, government or military environment: industrial controls design, manufacturing, capital projects, equipment installation, and/or troubleshooting support

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

• BS or higher in Electrical Engineering with a Systems/Control Systems emphasis
• Industrial Controls experience
• Disciplined in system design lifecycle (requirements, design, implementation, verification, and validation) in the medical industry
• Experience with test hardware, sensor technology, software, and data generation
• Software development experience (Visual Studio (VB, C#, C++), SharePoint, NI Measurement Studio, HTML, Java, LabVIEW)
• Experience with Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) Systems
• Strong emphasis on applied statistical applications (Minitab and Excel) and continuous improvement methodologies
• Five (5) years of experience of manufacturing, equipment installation and troubleshooting support
• Knowledge and experience in a manufacturing site working with maintenance and resident engineering

Travel: May include up to 10% domestic
